Our Story
How Global Language Bridge began and where we're headed.

Mateo Bilbao & Luis Gomez-Acebo in their visit to the Cox Bazar Orphanage
Global Language Bridge began after a month in Bangladesh. What struck Mateo and Luis most wasn't the hardship, it was the discipline, determination, and energy of the children they met. Kids who showed up every day ready to learn, eager to grow, no matter what stood in their way. That drive deserved real support, so we started organizing weekly online English classes for a small group of students.
What began as a small initiative became a long-term commitment. For the first two years, we taught in Sompriti orphanage in Cox's Bazar, working closely with the students and staff there. Over time, the project expanded to other schools, and today we reach more than 300 students through our classes.
Thanks to collaboration with current students of English linguistics and early childhood development from different universities in Bangladesh, we improved our curriculum so that it complements the national Bengali curriculum instead of competing with it. We believe English should be taught as a language to live and use, not as a list of rules to memorise. Our goal is to help students communicate in English, express themselves, and gain confidence, rather than focus only on grammar and tests.
We started as a small team of four and have now grown to around fifteen people, bringing together volunteers with different skills and backgrounds. As we continue to grow, we keep looking for new collaborations with local organisations, universities, and individuals who share our belief that language can open doors to opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.

Mission & Vision
Our Mission
At Global Language Bridge, we believe meaningful change comes from within communities, not from outside intervention. That's why we work in close partnership with local NGOs that have already earned the trust of the children they serve. Our role is focused and respectful: we support their existing schools and orphanages by adding English classes that fit alongside the national Bengali curriculum. These lessons help children speak, express themselves, and use English in real situations, opening doors to better study options, jobs, and connections beyond their communities. We build on what already works, never replacing it. English is a tool for them, not a complete solution. And through every collaboration, we learn just as much as we teach.
Our Vision
We see a world where English opens real doors for children, but only when it's taught alongside local teachers, inside existing schools, and in ways that fit their lives. Global Language Bridge doesn't claim to change everything. We work with local NGOs who already know their communities, adding English classes that can help children speak confidently, apply for scholarships, find better work, and connect beyond their neighborhoods. Our contribution stays humble: support what works locally, share language skills, and learn from those who live there every day. Language is powerful, but only when it grows from partnerships that are equal, practical, and lasting.
How We Work
Bilingual Instruction
Classes mix English and Bengali so students always understand and build confidence step by step.
Interactive Learning
Online sessions use games, discussions, and videos to keep children engaged and excited to participate.
Flexible Curriculum
Our program moves students from basic conversation to stronger levels, while giving teachers freedom to adapt techniques for their classroom and each group's needs.
Monthly Teacher Training
Our teacher trainer runs practical workshops every month, one skill at a time, like classroom management or student engagement, so volunteers keep improving together.
Simple Monitoring
We developed a simple M&E system to keep classes strong and everyone learning together.
